Breckenridge Buckskinners

2008 Hart Canyon Rules

HART CANYON RENDEZVOUS RULES:

These rules are applicable to all participants and campers at all times. If you are either unwilling or unable to abide by all these rules, we respectfully request that you seek another rendezvous to attend.

CAMPING RULES

1.    You have one (1) hour to unload your gear in the primitive area.

2.    When breaking camp (except on last Sunday) do so before bringing your vehicle into camp.

3.    Tipis, tents and lean-to's covered with hides, constructed of white of off-white tenting, plain or appropriately painted will be considered acceptable shelters in the primitive area.

4.    Plastic or other modern water containers, ice chests or other such items must be covered at all times.

5.    No Coleman type or electric stoves, heaters, lanterns or flashlights, metal or plastic furniture are allowed.  There are to be NO Coleman or other liquid fuels allowed in camp for any reason.

6.    All food and drinks must be served in pre-1840 type containers.

7.    Motor homes and house trailers are not practical on the road. The Breckenridge Buckskinners strongly recommend they not be brought. There will be a small tin-tipi area, which is away from the primitive areas for modern tents and truck-carried campers.

8.    It should be remembered at all times that Hart Canyon is a primitive family rendezvous. Watch you camp, your outfit, your partners, and the late hour of the evening. By midnight the camp should be quite.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE ROAD IS ROUGH AND RV'S ARE NOT RECOMMENDED

CAMP FIRE RULES

1.    Open fires are allowed only in the primitive area. No open fires allowed in the tin tipi or parking areas.

2.    You are responsible for keeping your fire under control at all times. Whatever the weather, liquid fuels including BBQ starters are not allowed. Do not leave your fire unattended.

3.    Cutting firewood is NOT permitted from any standing tree, dead or not. No chain saws are allowed at anytime or anywhere.

4.    Do not count on firewood being available: BRING YOUR OWN FIREWOOD -- PRACTICE GOOD FIRE SKILLS -- TAKE IT SLOW AND SAFE!

DRESS CODE

1.    Pre-1840 style dress is mandatory for all campers in the primitive areas from arrival to departure.

2.    Rounded toe Wellington boots, Dyer moccasins, and high button shoes are acceptable. (prosthetic devices for medical reasons are excepted).

3.    Children must be in appropriate primitive dress -- including shoes. No sneakers because the moccasins are wet!

REMEMBER THAT CHILDREN ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENT, NOT THE NICE BUCKSKINNER CAMPED NEXT DOOR!!

SHOOTING RULES

1.    Absolutely NO cannons, revolving pistols (THIS INCLUDES PATTERSON PISTOLS), breechloaders or cartridge type firearms of any kind allowed.

3.    All trade and blanket goods must comply with the spirit of pre-1840. If   you are not sure, ASK!

4.    Books, catalogues, and art (original or print), which pertain to the fur trade era are considered acceptable for trade.

5.    All trading must take place within the confines of the primitive camp. There is no "tail-gate" sales or trading allowed in the tin-tipi or parking area.

6.    Absolutely NO goods listed as "ILLEGAL" under California Fish and Game or federal wildlife rules will be allowed in or near this event.

7.    All food venders are responsible for their products, their licenses, etc.

PETS AND HORSES

As of 2003 pets are again allowed at Hart Canyon Rendezvous.  However, the club sincerely requests that all pet owners use care and discretion.  The longevity of this rule depends upon the pet owners.

1.    No more than two (2) dogs are to be in any camp.

2.    All pets must be supervised and under full control at all times.  That means leashes must be reasonable and pickets sturdy.  For participants,  leashes must be primitive (plain rope rather than pink nylon).

3.    A noisy or unfriendly animal (or owner) is unwelcome.  As with any problem, the Booshway has the final say.

4.    Owners are to clean up after their pets both while in camp and out-and-about.  Dispose of waste properly.

5.    No dogs are allowed on the range, near any shooting event, and are not recommended at camp meeting.

6.    If you are considering bringing a horse, please contact the Booshway for information.  Horses are totally the responsibility of the owner.  Areas for riding are very limited.
